The Ocracoke Township Tourism Development Authority has funded covered tram stop benches, trash cans, and trash pickup services at seven stops in Ocracoke village.

The tram stops with trash cans include Community Square, near the Island Inn, the Variety Store, Howard’s Pub and 1718 Ocracoke Brewing, the Pony Island Inn, the Lunch Box, and the Ocracoke Coffee Company.

The trash cans will be emptied daily, year-round, and serviced by J. Rene Flores. Doggie waste bags are provided as well at the tram stops.

“We’ve heard continued complaints about trash being left around Ocracoke Village, and we felt this was a great community project benefiting visitors and island residents,” said Kenny Ballance, OTTDA chairman.

The free, nine-stop Ocracoke tram service loops around the island from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. in 30-minute intervals. Pick-up points are marked with signs indicating “Tram Stop.” The tram is seasonal, running from Memorial to Labor Day.
