Barricades return to several Southern Shores streets for the weekend

August 5th, 2022

The Town of Southern Shores has once again placed barricades at key locations for the weekend in an effort to discourage through traffic from using the town’s narrow streets.

The barricades are in place from Friday to Monday at Juniper Trail; East Dogwood at Hickory Trail, Hillcrest Drive, Sea Oats Trail and Wax Myrtle Trail; Hickory Trail at Hillcrest Drive, Sea Oats Trail and Wax Myrtle Trail; and Hillcrest Drive at Sea Oats Drive.

Travelers heading to-or-from Duck and Corolla and Kitty Hawk are reminded to stay on U.S. 158 and N.C. 12 to reach their destinations. Data shows cutting through the streets of Southern Shores can make the trip between the Wright Memorial Bridge to Duck village take longer.

The town used the barricades and other measures earlier in the summer, but discontinued their use starting with July 4th weekend after unintended consequences made traffic worse through the town.
