A joint celebration of neighborhood unity in Corolla was held on Monday at the Corolla Light Sports Center.

State Sen. Bobby Hanig (R-Powells Point) presented and oversaw the raising of a North Carolina flag flown over the State Capitol Building in Raleigh honoring the inaugural Corolla Cup.

Held in October and celebrating the unified action of seven participating neighborhoods in the event, with the Currituck Club/Ocean Sands winning the cup.

The flag will fly over Currituck Club from December to May, and Ocean Sands from May to October.

Following the ceremony, a town hall was held where full-time and seasonal residents asked questions of Hanig, Currituck Travel and Tourism Director Tameron Kugler, Doug Brindley of Brindley Beach Vacations and Corolla Light general manager Ben Stikeleather on a variety of community issues.
