Blues on the Green in Elizabeth City rescheduled to Nov. 17-18 at Tooley’s Tavern at The Boathouse

November 15th, 2023

Elizabeth City Downtown Inc.’s Blues on the Green 2023, originally slated for September, was blown off schedule by Tropical Storm Ophelia. But the Blues on the Green Committee is happy to announce that the event is back on track for November with a new location.

Come enjoy the festival on Friday and Saturday, November 17-18 at Tooley’s Tavern at The Boathouse at 400 E. Colonial Avenue, Downtown Elizabeth City. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

It is now a ticketed event (with VERY reasonable ticket prices) and all proceeds will go towards infrastructure for future outdoor live music events. Tickets are $8.00 for Friday night only; $8.00 for Saturday afternoon/night only; or $12.00 for BOTH days.

Tickets may be purchased on Ticketleap:  ec-downtown.ticketleap.com/bog2023/

The Music on the Green at Mariners’ Wharf Park Summer Music Series culminates in a big bluesy way with the 2023 Blues on the Green Fall Music Festival. Unlike the Fall Music Festivals the previous two years, this year’s music event will be focused on the Blues genre.

The third annual festival will be a weekend of Blues, Blues/Rock, Delta Blues, and soulful musical performances by talented and popular local, regional, and mid-Atlantic-based blues entertainers with style, personality, and high entertainment value.

Enjoy the music and dance the afternoon and evening away!  Live local music in many of the Downtown Elizabeth City venues for you to enjoy, as well. Schedule will be updated as it comes together.

The exciting lineup includes:
Friday, November 17
5:00-6:30 pm – Cole & MaryAnn — Delta Blues

Cole Stevens and MaryAnn Toboz interpret early blues music with passion and energy, played out on searing slide guitar, soulful harmonica and two voices. Their renditions of songs by Sonny Boy Williamson, Willie Dixon, Albert King, Son House, Robert Johnson, Tampa Red, Howlin’ Wolf and other pioneering artists present a powerful and unique chemistry. Their sound is compelling, old school, and Delta Blues; it harkens to the genre’s originators and yields a rich, organic blend that is surefire and irresistible.

7:00-8:30 pm – Uphill Blues Band

Uphill plays blues straight out of the Swampland. With a mix of original blues and revitalizing versions of lost classics from Chicago to the Delta, Uphill has brought their own Carolina tang to the table since 2005. Deacon Blues captures the soul of guitar legends from Muddy Waters to Stevie Ray Vaughan, but the Uphill sound is also driven by Chris “Catdaddy” Palestrant on keys, and the Deacon’s gut busting blues harp. Virginia Beach-based Isaiah Hunter on drums provides a powerful heartbeat. Deacon Blues (aka Adam Nixon) — Guitar, vocals, harp; Chris “Catdaddy” Palestrant — Keys, vocals, melodica; Isaiah Hunter – Drums; Sonny Morgan – Bass

9:00-10:30 pm – The Ramble

The Ramble is a 4-piece band out of the Outer Banks, North Carolina specializing in Blues, Rock, Funk, and Soulful melodies. Their music, especially on original songs, mixes soulful, bluesy sounds punctuated by long jam sessions where any instrument out of the four might dominate the solo. This soul-funk-jam group has a style that blends Grateful Dead, the Allman Brothers Band and Frank Sinatra (really), that is uniquely entertaining and a must see.

Saturday, November 18

3:00-5:00 pm – The RTB Band

“The World’s Greatest Blues Performer,” Mr. Right Time for The Blues! Reggie T. Barnes, RTB, from the Virginia Beach, VA area.

5:30-7:30 pm – The Rob White Trio

Rob White is a guitarist/singer songwriter out of Chesapeake Va. Rob is best known for playing and singing a wide variety of different musical styles. His music is a mix of blues and soul-funk with some rock and jazz elements that will make you move and groove.

8:00-10:00 pm – Hustle Souls

Hustle Souls is an Asheville, NC based soul band who blend dust-covered-vinyl nostalgia with modern sensibility; recently named one of “Music Connections” Hot 100 Live Unsigned Artists & Bands. Driven by a lust for songwriting, the band’s fervid live performance is heightened by undeniable instrumental prowess and 3-part vocal harmony. With relentless touring, sold-out shows and major festival appearances the band has earned a reputation as one of the East Coast’s most promising acts.
