The closest international airport to northeastern North Carolina and the Outer Banks has set a new record for the number of passengers served for an eighth straight month.
Norfolk International Airport (ORF) reported a 10.6 percent increase in passenger activity for the month of September with 385,988 passengers this year, compared to 349,082 in 2022.
January to September 2023 total passenger count has increased 9.2 percent representing 3,385,235 passengers, up from 3,100,375 passengers during the first 9 months of 2022.
In other activity, 4,398,733 pounds of cargo were shipped in and out of the airport during September 2023. This represents an 18.1 percent decrease compared to September 2022, which saw 5,371,250 pounds of cargo shipped.
January to September 2023 cargo pounds shipped has decreased 5.8% percent representing 44,409,907 cargo pounds compared to 47,167,837 cargo pounds during the same period in 2022.
The figures reflect service by scheduled airlines Allegiant, American, Breeze, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, Spirit, United and their regional airline partners, as well as charter airlines. All-cargo carriers include Federal Express and UPS.
