Norfolk International Airport reported an 11.7 percent increase in passenger activity for the month of August with 448,606 passengers las month, marking the busiest August in the airport’s history and the seventh consecutive record-setting month.
Passenger counts in August 2022 totaled 401,704 at the closest international airport to the Greater Outer Banks.
January to August total passenger count has increased 9.1 percent in 2023, representing 2,999,247 passengers compared to 2,748,857 passengers during the same period in 2022.
In other activity, 4,987,181 pounds of cargo were shipped in and out of the airport during August 2023. This represents a 11.5 percent decrease compared to August 2022, which saw 5,638,340 pounds of cargo shipped. January to August 2023 cargo pounds shipped has decreased 4.3% percent representing 40,011,174 cargo pounds compared to 41,796,587 cargo pounds during the same period in 2022.
The figures reflect service by scheduled airlines Allegiant, American, Breeze, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, Spirit, United and their regional airline partners, as well as charter airlines. All-cargo carriers include Federal Express and UPS.
