Study: Travelers to continue releasing pent-up demand over next 12 months

June 16th, 2023

Pent-up demand for travel, and particularly international travel, is expected to continue during the next year.

Recent research by Destination Analysts notes that nearly a third of U.S. travelers plan to travel outside of the United States for leisure in the next 12 months.

This figure has been consistently within 5 percentage points during the last year.

While many Americans expect to travel overseas during the next year, inbound international travel continues to improve.

Overseas arrivals improved to its best post-pandemic level in March to 25 percent below 2019 levels, according to the U.S. Travel Association .

U.S. Travel notes there are still differences in recovery among overseas markets.

Visitation from the U.K. and Germany have returned to approximately 90 percent of pre-pandemic levels; Japan and China, while improving, are still far behind. Visitation from India is the only major market to exceed 2019 levels.
