Downtown Books’ next signing event will be during Manteo’s First Friday, May 5, from 5:30pm – 7:30pm and will feature local author LaVern Davis Parker.
LaVern comes from six generations of Dare County boat builders whose names are recognizable to everyone- Davis, Creef and Parker.
She has thoroughly researched the lineage of these families- and the boats they crafted- in her wonderful book Our Family, Its History, Their Boats. This book has quickly become a best-seller for anyone interested in Outer Banks history and local boats.
Parker’s family and boats are synonymous- from cousins who built boats incorporating the Carolina Flare design to her father who not only built successful racing boats, but also over 50 patrol boats for the U.S. government.
History and marine enthusiasts alike will become engrossed in the pages and photos that Parker has compiled within this book. It is a must read and must have for locals and visitors alike.
