UPDATED, Thursday 8 a.m.: North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey, who also serves as the State Fire Marshal, announced at Wednesday’s Kill Devil Hills Board of Commissioners meeting that the town’s fire department now has the best possible rating.
The department’s ISO rating of three has now been upgraded to one, following a recent inspection by the state that shows how prepared firefighters are at responding to calls and battling blazes in their districts.
Kill Devil Hills is now one of 28 fire departments in North Carolina to have the top rating. A rating of one is the best, while 10 is the worst.
The new ratings will become effective for new and renewing residential and commercial insurance policies on July 1.
