Good Friday, which is April 7 this year, is an observed state government holiday in North Carolina and also by most local governments, and their offices and facilities will be closed for the day.
In addition, some counties and towns will be altering their schedules during the week leading up to Easter due to the closure on Good Friday.
Town of Nags Head
The Town of Nags Head says there will be no changes to their trash collection schedules ahead of the holiday.
Town of Manteo
The Town of Manteo Administrative Offices will be closed on Friday, April 7, 2023 in observance of Good Friday. There will be no changes to the solid waste pickup schedule.
Town of Kitty Hawk
Mon., April 3: Residential & commercial collection
Tues., April 4: No trash collection
Wed., April 5: Residential collection only
Thurs., April 6: Commercial collection only
Fri., April 7: No trash collection. Town offices and Recycling Center closed.
Recycling Center is open on Saturday, April 8th, 8 am to noon.
Town of Kill Devil Hills
Dare County (unincorporated areas and Town of Kitty Hawk)
Dare County Public Works — which provides trash collection for the unincorporated areas of the county as well as the Town of Kitty Hawk — has announced its revised collection schedule for the week of Monday, April 3, 2023 through Friday, April 7, 2023.
The Dare County C&D Landfill, Buxton Transfer Station and Manteo Recycle Yard will be closed on Friday, April 7, 2023 in observance of Good Friday. These sites will reopen on Saturday, April 8, 2023.
Residential trash collection for the week of Monday, April 3, 2023 through Friday, April 7, 2023 will take place as follows:

- Monday, April 3, 2023: Kitty Hawk, Colington, Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras
- Tuesday, April 4, 2023: Manteo, Wanchese, Manns Harbor, East Lake, Stumpy Point, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo and Avon
- Wednesday, April 5, 2023: Kitty Hawk, Colington, Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras
- Thursday, April 6, 2023: Manteo, Wanchese, Manns Harbor, East Lake, Stumpy Point, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo and Avon
- Friday, April 7, 2023: Closed – no trash collection.
Commercial trash collection will take place on Monday, April 3, 2023 and Thursday, April 6, 2023.
Dare County offices will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, April 10, 2023.
The Dare County Public Works Department only provides trash collection for the Town of Kitty Hawk and the unincorporated areas of Dare County. Unincorporated Dare County does not include areas within a town’s limits.
