Weekly permits to park on the four-wheel drive beach along the Currituck Outer Banks will go on sale starting Monday, April 3.
Four-wheel drive vehicles must have a county-issued Beach Parking Permit or Currituck County Access Permit properly displayed to park on the beaches north of Corolla village up to the state line, from the last Saturday of April through the first Saturday in October.
Currituck County has detailed rules on beach driving, including designated parking areas, seasonal travel lanes and other information that can be found at https://currituckcountync.gov/beach-parking/.
The weekly permits are not needed for those who have the following:
- All Currituck County residents and nonresident property owners use the white and blue 2023-24 Currituck County Access Permit as a beach parking permit. Full-time renters are required to provide proof of residence.
- County residents and nonresident property owners located in the 4×4 area with a dwelling may obtain two additional beach parking permits from the Corolla Visitors Center.
For those staying in rental homes in the four-wheel drive areas, including Swan Beach and Carova Beach:
- If the house is in a rental program, the rental management company will distribute the guest permits to renters. Permits are provided to the rental companies by the county.
- If the property owner rents the house (AirBnB, VRBO, etc.), the property owner must obtain permits from the Corolla Visitors Center, limit of two per house.
- Visitors renting in the four-wheel drive area should contact either their rental company or the property owner with any questions.
For those who do not have either of the above, a limit of 300 permits per week are sold for $50 each, and are available online at https://currituckcountync.gov/beach-parking/.
