During the grand opening last December for the locally-owned Jersey Mike’s Subs in Manteo, a total of $3,695.50 was raised for Manteo High School.

Customers who had free sub cards were asked to make a minimum donation of $2 during the first five days of operation of the shop on Roanoke Island, with more than 1,700 subs given away during the promotion.

The Manteo franchise of Jersey Mike’s is one of five in the Greater Outer Banks operated by Soundside Subs Inc. and co-owned by native sons Lynwood Evans and Shaun Hayman.

This is also the final week of the Month of Giving, where local Jersey Mike’s raise money for local charities, highlighted by the Day of Giving on Wednesday, March 29, when 100% of all sales from that day are given to charities.

“Last year it was changed up a little and corporate Jersey Mike’s Subs chose to all collectively support the Special Olympics US Games in Orlando, Florida and we raised over $20 million,” Hayman said. “It was a great effort for a great cause. This year we’re back to our roots and supporting local charities.”

Hayman said the Moyock store is raising money for the Currituck Education Foundation, Elizabeth City for the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools and the Southern Shores, Nags Head and Manteo stores for the Outer Banks Relief Foundation.

“Swing by and grab a sub for a good cause,” Hayman said.
