Whitney Knollenberg, associate professor at N.C. State University, and Clark Twiddy, Twiddy and Company President and WOBX Publisher, are this week’s guests on the Chatter with BNC podcast.
The Lighthouse Fund for Sustainable Tourism, a partnership established in 2021 between N.C. State University’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management and Twiddy and Company, conducted research and outreach activities across the Greater Outer Banks to promote sustainable tourism development.
Knollenberg has been sharing her study results to help support similar efforts around the state.
They discuss with David Mildenberg of BusinessNC.com how North Carolina can balance surging tourism demand with local desires for livable communities, a hot topic at the mountains and the coast in the sixth-most visited state in the U.S.
Knollenberg shared some experience from her research, while Twiddy described real-world challenges facing property owners and civic leaders.
