Dare County Odyssey of the Mind teams advance to state competition

March 22nd, 2023

Five teams from Dare County will advance to the Odyssey of the Mind state tournament in Raleigh on March 25.

Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that encourages innovation and critical thinking. During Odyssey of the Mind competitions, students work together in groups with a coach to find creative solutions to long-term and spontaneous problems.

Groups are given four months to solve, plan, and complete their designs for the long term problem. The spontaneous problem is announced during the competition and requires quick thinking from group members. Each team works together to develop their own solutions and showcase their work during a group performance.

These challenges encourage students to think outside the box and apply what they have learned in the classroom in the real world. Science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics are academic subjects that are incorporated into each problem solving event.

During the eastern regional tournament on February 25, members from Kitty Hawk Elementary School’s Team B placed first in “The Walls of Troy” event and Team C placed third in “The Most Dramatic Problem Ever” event.
