A privately-operated passenger ferry service is slated to begin serving Elizabeth City, Hertford, Edenton, Columbia and Plymouth in the near future, while a dinner cruise vessel will be ready to start running this spring.

Peter Thompson, CEO of the non-profit Harbor Town, Inc., gave a presentation to the Town of Manteo Board of Commissioners during their workshop meeting on Wednesday, with discussion including the possible addition of Manteo to the route.

Thompson shared details about the ferry system composed of a pair of vessels that will transport passengers daily between the towns and includes a 140-passenger ship that will offer dinner cruises and rentals for private parties.

Concerns have been raised by Hertford leaders after it was found the dinner boat will likely not be able to use the town’s dock on the Perquimans River due to shallow water.

Start up funding of $5 million for Harbor Towns was included in the latest state government budget by Rep. Edward Goodwin (R-Chowan) that was used to help fund purchase of the three vessels.

More details about Harbor Town Cruises can be found on their recently launched Facebook and Instagram pages.
