Crews have begun working on the replacement of a pipe running under U.S. 158 at Nags Head Town Hall which requires a full closure of South Croatan Highway, and all traffic is being diverted onto the Beach Road.

The southbound lanes of the Bypass are closed at East Epstein Street and the northbound lanes are closed at South Seachase Drive. All traffic is being detoured to South Virginia Dare Trail, with access to Town Hall is available from N.C. 12.

Work has already been completed on replacing pipes at Baltic Street and West Oak Knoll ahead of resurfacing of U.S. 158 in Nags Head.

Milling of U.S. 158 continued Wednesday afternoon north of Whalebone Junction.

The milling and paving portion of the project got underway Monday in the Whalebone Junction area near the intersection of Gray Eagle Street and South Croatan Highway and proceeding northward.

Work will be phased with the first phase spanning between Gray Eagle Street and Town Hall. The second phase will likely span from Nags Head Town Hall to Jockey’s Ridge. Both phases are expected to be completed by mid-May.

The third phase is anticipated to occur this fall to finish the balance of South Croatan Highway up through to Eighth Street.
