The Museum of the Albemarle invites school groups to celebrate National Music in Our Schools Month with A Tribute to Stephen Foster program on Friday, March 24, 2023, at 10 a.m. and again at 11 a.m. in the Gaither Auditorium.
Join us in learning about Stephen Foster, this nation’s first professional composer, who is often referred to as the father of American music.
Robert Waters, local historian, will provide students with an understanding of how the events in the composer’s life shaped his music.
Students will hear a variety of instruments, including a restored 1904 Esty portable reed organ, a baritone banjo, an autoharp, a 1940s-era melodeon, and a flageolet.
This free program is designed for grades 6-12. Registration is required. Please contact Lori Meads to register at lori.meads@ncdcr.gov or at (252) 331-4054.
