N.C. Cooperative Extension offers class on horse, livestock pasture establishment and maintenance

February 2nd, 2023

Are you planning to raise horses or livestock, but don’t know how to get your pasture started? Or maybe your once beautiful pasture has become neglected and overrun with weeds?

If you need help with your pastures this year, N.C. Cooperative Extension has the class for you. Join them on February 22, from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Currituck County Center, located at 120 Community Way in Barco for the Pasture Establishment & Maintenance Meeting.

Extension professionals from Currituck and Perquimans Counties are partnering up to cover everything you need to know to get your pasture growing well.

The class will start with a brief introduction to soil health. This portion will cover what type of soil is present in your pasture, why you should get your soil tested, how to interpret the results, and how to amend your soil.

We’ll then dive deeper into how to prepare the field for planting, what plants work well for different animal species in Northeast NC, and how to manage and maintain pastures.

Register for this free class today through Eventbrite. For more information or accommodations for persons with disabilities please contact Adam Formella at 252-232-2261, or email adam_formella@ncsu.edu no later than ten business days before the event.
