Mended Wing Theatre Company to bring ‘Hamlet’ to Ocracoke

January 25th, 2023

Ocracoke Alive will host the Mended Wing Theatre Company with a production of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, and Saturday, Jan. 28, in the Ocracoke Community Center.

Ocracoke’s own Emmet Temple formed the company with fellow students from the N.C. School of the Arts.

For their sixth season beginning this month, they will conduct two separate tours: first a winter tour of Eastern NC with “Hamlet,” guest directed by Beth Fletcher, and a spring tour of central N.C. with “The Tempest,” guest directed by Tyree Albert.

Their organization is founded on the belief that Shakespeare is for everyone, that theatre is an empathy-building tool, and that art should be easily accessible and financially viable, to people all across the country – not just to those who live near a “cultural hub.”

Tickets available at the door. Student admission free; adults $10 recommended donation.

Ocracoke Alive also will sponsor a free Mended Wing Workshop for community members: Shakespearean Speeches Acting and Writing from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28. at the Ocracoke Community Center. No registration necessary.
