Norfolk International Airport reports 24.3 percent passenger increase for 2022

Norfolk International Airport (ORF) reported 0.9 percent increase in passenger activity for the month of December 2022 with 323,669 passengers.

This figure compares to a December 2021 passenger count of 320,914. This marks the second highest December passenger count in the airport’s history.

January to December 2022 total passenger count has increased 24.3 percent, representing 4,115,537 passengers versus 3,331,121 passengers during the same period in 2021.

This is the first time the closest international airport to the Outer Banks and northeastern North Carolina has served more than four million passengers in a calendar year.

In other activity, 6,042,222 pounds of cargo was shipped in and out of the airport during December 2022. This represents a 1.1 percent decrease versus December 2021, which saw 6,111,167 pounds of cargo shipped. January to December 2022 cargo pounds shipped has decreased 5.5 percent representing 63,819,938 cargo pounds versus 67,558,428 cargo pounds during the same period in 2021.

The above-mentioned figures reflect service by scheduled airlines Allegiant, American, Boutique, Breeze, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, United and their regional airline partners, as well as charter airlines. Cargo carriers include Federal Express, Mountain Air Cargo and UPS.
