A boil advisory has been issued for parts of Corolla after a water main leak Tuesday night.
Currituck County spokesperson Randall Edwards said a period of low or no pressure in the distribution system occurred, which increases the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system.
The Currituck County Water Department advises consumers in the areas of Ocean Sands Section F (Sea Oats Ct, Surf Song Lane, Sandfiddler Circle, Sandfiddler Trail, Surf Song Ct, Saltspray Ct, Salt Spray Circle) and Ocean Sands Section E (Schooner Ridge, Staysail Cres) to boil all water used for human consumption or use bottled water.
Vigorous boiling for one (1) minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water.
This advisory will remain in effect until 8:00 am on Thursday, January 12.
