At the Dare County Tourism Board meeting on December 15, the Dare County Veterans Advisory Council announced the “Wall That Heals” a three-quarter replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. will be coming to the Outer Banks.
More details about the exhibit’s visit that take place at The Soundside Event Site in Nags Head will be announced soon, according to Outer Banks Visitors Bureau Executive Director Lee Nettles.
Nettles said occupancy tax revenue for September and October were both even with the record set in 2021, while meal tax revenue was up two percent in September but down 35 percent from the previous year.
Overall for 2022, occupancy tax income is up 7 percent and meal tax is up 3 percent while both figures are back in line with pre-pandemic levels as expected.
Other highlights from the final meeting of the tourism board in 2022 included a presentation on a proposed boardwalk at The Sound Side and the annual audit of the board’s spending.
