Two separate construction projects in Cape Hatteras National Seashore will require the closure of a parking lot on Hatteras Island and a road on Ocracoke Island this coming week.
Beginning Sunday at 9:30 p.m. and lasting through Monday at 6 p.m., the Kite Point parking lot will be closed.

This will allow work on Dare County Water Department’s water line replacement project between the villages of Avon and Buxton.
Prong Road on the northwest corner of Ocracoke Island is scheduled to close Monday at 6 a.m. lasting through the end of the month, for a North Carolina Department of Transportation project to protect a vulnerable stretch of N.C. 12 from flooding.
Prong Road is an ORV-access to the soundside beach next to the Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry terminal.

The closure of Prong Road will allow the NCDOT to safely access the existing dredge spoil pile and more efficiently haul sand to the sandbag area of N.C. 12, as large dump trucks will be able to avoid areas of erosion and soft sand during the project.
If Prong Road reopens prior to the end of November, it will be announced on the Cape Hatteras National Seashore’s beach access table at: http://go.nps.gov/beachaccess.
