Bluegrass Island Music Festival 2022 brings mountain sounds to the Outer Banks through Saturday

The 2022 Bluegrass Island Music Festival is all tuned up and ready to bring the sounds of the mountains to the Outer Banks this week.

Music lovers from all over the world flock to Downtown Manteo for this tradition that combines a roster of acclaimed bands with one of the most beautiful venues.

One of North Carolina’s most highly anticipated premier music festivals, this year’s event is no exception, with a number of regionally and internationally famous bands set to take the stage.

The Bluegrass Island Festival will be held at three different venues this year: Lost Colony Tavern on Wednesday, Oct. 19, Bluegrass Island Trading Company on Thursday, Oct. 20, and Roanoke Island Festival Park on Friday, Oct. 21 and Saturday, Oct. 22.

If your dream vacation involves laying back in your most comfortable beach chair and listening to great music, then you’ll definitely want to set this long weekend aside for the Outer Banks’ most popular festival.

The Bluegrass Island Music Festival is presented by Buffalo City Distillery, Mollie A. Fearing and Associates Insurance Brokers, RedBox, Bollie Lee Jarratt, Jr. CPA, Historic Manteo Walking Tour, BluegrassRoadTrip.com, Radio Free Outer Banks, and WOBX.

It all gets started with a free show Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. at Lost Colony Tavern, 208 Queen Elizabeth Ave. in Manteo, with Sideline.

On Thursday, Oct. 20, there’s a Bluegrass Island Cruise departing at 12:30 p.m. Starting at 5 p.m. at Bluegrass Island Trading Company, at the Phoenix Shops on Budleigh Street, the music continues with free performances by Schimich, Howell & Caswell, followed by Town Mountain at 6:45 p.m.

BOOGrass is at 8:15 p.m., with a chance to win $500 cash in the costume contest and $100 cash in the pumpkin carving contest. Other prizes in the contests include general and single day passes to the 2023 festival. Click here for more details on BOOGrass.

And the night is not done, as Sideline performs at 9:15 p.m.

Then the scene shifts to Roanoke Island Festival Park on Friday, Oct. 21. Gates open at 10 a.m.:

  • WOBX Live with Sam Walker, 5 p.m.
  • The United States Navy Band, 5:15 p.m.

  • Steep Canyon Rangers, 9 p.m.
  • Late Night Jam with Sideline, 11 p.m.

On Saturday, Oct. 22, gates open again at 10 a.m.:

  • Cornhole Tournament, 10:30 a.m.
  • Songs From The Road Band, 12 p.m.
  • Junior Sisk, 1:45 p.m.
  • The Grascals, 3:30 p.m.
  • Breaking Grass, 5:15 p.m.
  • Sidleline, 7 p.m.
  • We Banjo 3, 9 p.m.
