After a two week stretch of rough seas, the 2022 beach nourishment project has resumed along Kitty Hawk and will be starting soon off Southern Shores.
Weeks Marine’s Dredge B.E. Lindholm has returned and started pumping operations, with active construction near Mile Post 2 traveling south between Bennett Street to near Luke Street using the Maynard Street subline.
Once the current construction area in Kitty Hawk is connected to the previously completed portion of the project, the contractor will being pumping north from the Maynard Street subline. That’s scheduled to take place within the next several days.
A second dredge, the Magdalene, is expected to return Friday and start either off Southern Shores or Kitty Hawk.
That depends on when a resurvey of sand lost in the last two storm events is completed from the Kitty Hawk-Southern Shores town line to 60 Ocean Boulevard, which is about halfway between Skyline Road and Chicahauk Trail.
Once the Magdalene begins off Southern Shores, crews will pump south from 60 Ocean Boulevard.
