Schedule changes coming in November to trash collection sites in Moyock, Grandy

October 5th, 2022

Currituck County has announced changes in the hours of operation next month at their two busiest trash/recycling collection centers.

Due to concerns about traffic volume and safety of users, the Grandy and Moyock convenience centers will make the following schedule changes starting November 6:

  • Sunday hours of operation will increase to 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Tuesday hours of operation will be reduced to 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • The remaining days of the week will continue to follow a schedule of 7 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The intent behind the change is to reduce traffic congestion and wait times for citizens at Grandy and Moyock on Sundays, which is one of the busiest days of the week. Tuesday is the least active day of the week at the sites, according to a county news release.

The schedule changes apply only to the Grandy and Moyock convenience centers. All other convenience sites in the Currituck County will remain on the current schedule of  Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Sunday, 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Demand at the center in Moyock, and the cost of expanding the location at the corner of Tulls Creek and Panther Landing roads, has led to discussions of the county coordinating curbside pick-up in Moyock Township.

An initial proposal discussed by county commissioners and staff in September would require an additional fee on top of what property owners already pay through taxes to operate the convenience centers, The Daily Advance reported.

Several private companies, including Currituck Disposal Service, Waste Management and Bay Disposal, already provide trash and recycling services on a subscription basis in Currituck County.
