African American Experience of Northeastern N.C. wins regional tourism award

The Shining Example Partnership Award for cooperative tourism work was awarded to the African American Experience of Northeast North Carolina (AAENENC) created by Camden County Tourism Development Authority, Chowan County Tourism Development Authority, Currituck County Department of Travel and Tourism, Outer Banks Visitors Bureau, Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Tourism Development Authority, and Perquimans County Tourism Development Authority.

The Shining Example Awards Ceremony was held on the evening of September 8th, 2022, at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Charlotte Concord Golf Resort and Spa in Concord during STS Connections Conference.

André Nabors, Partner Relations Manager for Visit NC and a member of the AAENENC Advisory Board, accepted the award on behalf of the member counties. This self-guided, digital heritage trail includes more than 30 visitor-ready sites that include interpretive signs and monuments, parks, waterways, and museums with the mission to inspire exploration and appreciation for the African American experience in this region.

The AAENENC was one of sixteen award winners of the night. The Shining Example Awards Program, an industry fixture since 1985, recognizes outstanding contributions to travel and tourism within the Southeast United States
