The South Nags Head beach renourishment project is heading towards completion, with construction now moving north on the last leg of the project, while work along Kitty Hawk is expected to resume by Thursday.
Work is currently underway near 8519 South Old Oregon Inlet Road and mile post 18, and heading towards the northern terminus of the project area at the Comfort Inn South, 8031 South Old Oregon Inlet Road, at Whalebone Junction.
Active construction is expected to be completed in the next several days, barring weather and/or equipment issues.
The Gulfstream public beach access is being used for equipment staging and will be closed to both pedestrian and vehicular traffic through early September.
Kitty Hawk
Weeks Marine said Wednesday that repairs to the dredge have been completed and was enroute to Kitty Hawk. The dredge is expected to arrive in the evening and begin renourishment operations soon there after.
The proposed beginning construction area is 3713 and 3802 N. Virginia Dare Trail in the vicinity of White Street, between mile post 4.5 and 5.
