Outer Banks Forum’s premier concert series returns this fall and winter

August 21st, 2022

The Outer Banks Forum concert series announces their return with a slate of seven concerts that mix crowd pleasers with eclectic performers for their 2022/23 Season.

“When the maestro comes onstage to open our concert series, the conducting baton will truly seem like a magician’s wand,” said David Connaughton president of the Outer Banks Forum. “After our hiatus it is truly magical to have this music again on the OBX.”

A pioneering group of inquisitive residents met in 1983 at the Southern Shores Fire Station to start a “Forum” to bring speakers on current events to the Outer Banks.

The effort was successful and in 1991 the Forum’s orientation was shifted to musical and theatrical entertainments held in the school auditorium at Kitty Hawk Elementary. The Forum has since grown into a self-sustaining nonprofit that performs a series of seven concerts annually in the David E. Oaksmith Auditorium at First Flight High School in Kill Devil Hills.

The 2022/2023 season will include something for everyone—jazz, country, bluegrass, Motown and even a Beatles tribute band.

All performances are at the David E. Oaksmith Auditorium at First Flight High School in Kill Devil Hills.

The Virginia Symphony Orchestra kicks off the season on September 17. Their performance is presented in conjunction with The Bryan Cultural Series.

The great performances continue with a Motown tribute Shadows of the 60s on October 22; a Beatles fan group Liverpool Legends on November 26; a vintage country mix Country Rewind on January 21; a duo performance of the American songbook Timeless on February 18; multi-genre inspired pianist Barron Ryan Classic Meets Cool on March 18; and finishes out with the infectious and hip bluegrass music of Damn Tall Buildings on April 29.

Season subscriptions are on sale until September 17. Individual events are on sale season wide starting August 19. All tickets are print-at-home and sold at www.outerbanksforum.org.

Performances are available to purchase as a season subscription or as individual events. An all-volunteer board oversees the organization. For more information or to volunteer with the organization, email outerbanksforum@gmail.com or call ‪(252) 564-8781.
