Dare County Library’s fall 2022 adult Library Enrichment Series begins September 9

August 20th, 2022

The Dare County Library has announced the return of its popular Library Enrichment Series for Adults, which will be offered as hybrid events beginning in September 2022. Programs will primarily be held in the Kill Devil Hills Library meeting room with an option to join virtually via Zoom for those who are unable to attend in person.

Each month from September through December 2022, the Dare County Library will host programs on a wide array of topics, including nature, gardening, writing, Outer Banks history, self care and more. This season’s presenters include the Network for Endangered Sea Turtles (N.E.S.T.), the North Carolina Aquarium, the Outer Banks History Center, Keeper James Charlet, writers and representatives of National Novel Writing Month, the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Dare County Master Gardeners and the National Park Service.

“Sustainable Gardening in the Outer Banks: Using Native Plants for Environmentally-friendly Gardening and Landscaping”
Friday, September 9, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

The fall series will kick off on Friday, September 9, with a presentation by Rachel Veal, a horticulturist at the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island. Thanks to a generous donation from the aquarium, Veal and her staff installed a pollinator garden on the grounds of the Kill Devil Hills Library in the fall of 2021. From 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, September 9, 2022, Veal will present “Sustainable Gardening in the Outer Banks: Using Native Plants for Environmentally-friendly Gardening and Landscaping.”

Have you ever wondered how to create a more sustainable, wildlife-friendly and enjoyable landscape for your home? In this presentation, participants will learn about the benefits of native plants as well as how to manage their yard in an eco-friendly way that also reflects the beauty of the Outer Banks.

In-person participants will get to choose a native plant to take home with them for their yard. The event will be held in-person, both indoors and outside, at the Kill Devil Hills Library meeting room as well as the pollinator garden. There is an alternate rain date of Friday, September 16, 2022, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
