Tuesday evenings in the spring and summer come alive on the downtown Elizabeth City waterfront with Elizabeth City Downtown Inc.’s Summer Movies & Music Series at Mariners’ Wharf Park, a partnership between Elizabeth City Downtown, Inc. and locally owned RCE Theaters
Starting in June you can re-live the drive-in movie experience–sans the car–with Elizabeth City’s beautiful waterfront at Mariners’ Wharf Park as the backdrop. Enjoy a movie at the park on Tuesday evenings beginning at 8:30 pm or dusk, whichever is earlier.
Enjoy authentic movie theater popcorn and other concessions from RCE Theaters and/or have dinner beforehand in one of our amazing downtown restaurants.
Movies have traditionally been the black and white “classics” from the 1930’s through the 1960’s, but look for more recent classics and movies from different genres again this year. This will be the fourth year movie selections have been made outside of the traditional classic movie genre.
With a diverse community, the type of movies shown will be a little more diverse, as well. There will be a mix of varying types of films, including more comedies, dramas, family, fantasy, action, animation, biography, adventure, and horror.
The flicks will still be shown on the big screen, drive-in movie style, but in chairs rather than cars. The official film season is every Tuesday in June and July, through July 26th. There is no rain/weather makeup date this year.
There is no admission, and all movies are free to the public as a community event coordinated by Elizabeth City Downtown, Inc. in partnership with locally owned RCE Theaters. Movie-goers are encouraged to pack a picnic or order takeout and come early, or visit one of the downtown restaurants prior to the start of the movie. It’s a great time to gather as a community and enjoy the waterfront before and during the entertainment. Popcorn and drinks will be sold on site.
Weather in the form of wind and/or ran may affect the movie screenings. ECDI and RCE Theaters may make last minute move changes/substitutions if deemed necessary.
