The N.C. Department of Transportation will be performing resurfacing work Monday and Tuesday on two sections of N.C. 12 in Corolla and Duck.

The two sections of roadway are deteriorating rapidly and need urgent repair. The work was originally slated to take place in May, but had to be delayed due to NCDOT resources that were unavailable due to the nor’easter that closed N.C. 12 on Hatteras Island for several days.

On Monday, crews will resurface an 800-foot section of N.C. 12 just south of the Hampton Inn in the Pine Island section of Corolla.

On Tuesday, those same crews will resurface a 250-foot section of the highway near Acorn Oak Boulevard in Duck near the Ocean Pines neighborhood south of Sanderling.

The work will mean temporary lane closures on N.C. 12 both days. A message board alerting motorists to the work and warning of potential delays will be placed on both sides of the projects.

Residents and visitors should factor the roadwork into their travel plans Monday and Tuesday, as there is no detour around either project. The resurfacing work is expected to be finished by the end of the day Tuesday, weather permitting.
