A public meeting has been scheduled for Monday in Nags Head to review plans for the Outer Banks Event Center which has been proposed for The Soundside event site.
The meeting will take place at the Keeper’s Galley building at Haven on the Banks, 115 Dove Street, from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
Plans for the complex were announced in July 2021 for an approximately 49,000 square foot indoor facility “to serve the community with recreational, entertainment and economic opportunities”, according to the Dare County Tourism Board’s FAQ page at OuterBanks.org.
The proposed facility would include a 26,000 square foot main hall that can host concerts, sports, small trade shows and other events in a flexible design that can host up to 2,500 people.
A kitchen area would be designed to service needs of events in the center.
The Tourism Board said early discussions have also been held with College of the Albemarle and Dare County Schools on a collaborative effort to provide culinary training and certifications in the facility to train and attract more workforce to the local restaurant industry, and provide the community opportunities for programming like healthy-living classes.
Initial estimates are the Event Center will generate approximately $25 million in new spending annually on the Outer Banks, generate an additional 14,000 additional room nights for lodging providers and support 191 new jobs in the community.
