Welcome to WOBX: A Letter from the Editor

June 1st, 2022

Dear Readers,

For the past two years, the Greater Outer Banks has witnessed growth unlike any we’ve seen in recent history. The region has never been more popular, with millions visiting our cities, towns, and shores each year. This trend has created significant economic growth opportunities and opportunities to make that growth more sustainable in the short and long term.

Today, we launch WOBX to help you, our reader, stay informed about what we believe is a bright future for this beloved region of our country.

WOBX is a business-focused news and information platform designed for anyone who loves the Greater Outer Banks. This includes the natives and locals who call the area home, our guests who visit us each year, and our neighbors who have invested in vacation homes along our shores from many parts of the country.

From Elizabeth City to Carova, Ocracoke to Roanoke Island, our best-in-class journalism will help readers stay informed through insights from business and nonprofit leaders, policymakers, and researchers.

As a news company, we believe strongly in a diversity of perspectives, and we will work tirelessly to ensure all voices and opinions are heard. As we grow in the weeks and months ahead, we will always strive to be a credible, unbiased source for business news and analysis that will help keep you informed. If it’s a business story that matters, we want to be your trusted source, and we will always go the extra mile to earn your trust.

To help us achieve this goal, we have partnered with veteran journalist Sam Walker. Many of you know Sam from his many years covering news at various regional outlets and from his reporting on the national stage. Sam will be our lead reporter and will walk our beaches, docks, downtown streets and sidewalks to uncover stories that are important to you. You can reach Sam at sam@wobx.com

Finally, we want to hear from you. If you have a news tip you think we should cover, if you would like to write for us, or if you have any questions or comments, please reach out to news@wobx.com, and someone will respond promptly. Make sure to follow us on social media as well by clicking the links below.
